Driving With Satellite Navigation

One area that people seem to put the satellite navigation is at the top of their windscreen right in the centre, have you thought how dangerous that could be as you are limiting where you can see, if you put it anywhere on your window screen this will at some point distract you as you want to know where to go along the road.

People are unaware of where it should go legally as a lot of people think and do not read where it should go.

While driving the correct position for your satellite navigation is in the bottom right-hand corner of your windscreen, in this area you have a lot more vision of the road ahead.

Just think … Read the rest

Avoid Getting Stuck on the Beach

For starters, if you are going to go onto a beach you must have a shovel, a tyre gauge, a compressor, some basic knowledge of how to drive your vehicle and of course some common sense. If you have another vehicle then a snatch strap is a great item to take along too.

For most beaches, driving in between 12 and 18 PSI is a good range to be in for your tyres to bulge out properly. By letting air out of the tyres you are allowing them to spread more over the sand, which in turn means the vehicle sinks less and you keep on going. Sand driving should be done in low range in older vehicles or high … Read the rest

Beach Driving

My first advice is to ensure that your tyre pressures are adjusted correctly. By letting your tyres down you increase the surface area of the tyres and the vehicle floats on top of the sand better, rather than sinking down. Most people that get stuck don’t have their tyres down enough. For most vehicles, in between 15 and 20 PSI is the right pressure for sand driving. For the lighter weight vehicles, you can easily go down to 10 PSI without a drama. Just make sure that you don’t turn too quickly.

My second piece of advice is never spin your wheels in sand. If you stop moving and you continue to keep the wheels turning, your vehicle sinks lower, … Read the rest

History of Jeep Off-Roading

Jeeps were first produced in the 1940’s. They were designed and marketed using the positive reputation that they had gained during World War II and many of the first buyers were veterans who had used them during their time in the war. The first marketed Jeep was the CJ’s they came straight from the factory ready to be taken off-road and enjoyed. Early Jeeps featured high ground clearance, four-wheel drive and the ability to change into low gears. During the time of their release, there weren’t as many highways as there are today which left driver’s with plenty of open space to test their ride and their own off-roading.

It wasn’t long after their initial release that Jeep clubs began … Read the rest

Troubleshooting Winch

Winches are an important safety accessory that can easily be attached to your Jeep. Most models only require that you remove a few screws and attach it to a power source. But a winch can only be useful if it is in proper working condition. This is why we are going to share some common problems that winches experience and how to fix them.

If the motor of your winch will only run in one direction you may have a defective solenoid or stuck solenoid. If you think this may be the problem you should shake the solenoid to free the contacts and apply 12 volts to the coil terminal you should hear an audible click. Another cause could be … Read the rest

Wheel Drive Recoveries

Snatch straps and winch cables hold a significant amount of energy, and if they break all of that energy is released at once. A snatch strap will easily fly from one vehicle to the next in under a second, and there is no way you can get out of the way. As a general rule, everyone except both drivers in a recovery needs to be at least 20 metres away. This ensures that even if the strap or cable does break, no one is in range of the deadly missile. Secondly, make sure that dampeners are used. Two are ideal, and make sure that they aren’t very heavy. A towel works extremely well. These are designed to stop the cable … Read the rest

Maintain the Exhaust System Vehicle

Maintaining your car is your responsibility. Not only will it ensure that your car runs efficiently, it also saves you the cost of having to repair and install new accessories all the time. Here are some of the maintenance tips you can use for your vehicle.

Rusting starts from the inside of the pipes to the outside. This result from the moisture in the exhaust tubes which comes from the exhaust fumes that condenses in the tubes when the car is cooling off. Some aftermarket suppliers provide a chemical placed in the system to absorb moisture. It will help reduce rusting and you can always have the chemical replaced when it’s saturated.

When driving, always ensure that you do not … Read the rest

On Board Air Compressor

A Jeep on board air-compressor is a must have for any serious Jeep off-road driver because it serves a couple very important purposes. The first purpose for the onboard air-compressor is to help re-inflate the tires in case of an emergency. In addition, depending on the terrain, tire pressure varies to provide the best ground coverage and traction for the type of terrain present. With that being said, it is important to have an air-compressor onboard to inflate or deflate your tires to the proper pressure for the terrain.

Once an air-compressor is installed on your Jeep, another great accessory that compliments the air-compressor is the hookup kit. There are several good ones on the market. … Read the rest

The engine

Being not a twin but single turbo, one might be inclined to think problems of eliminating lag without resorting to an anti-lag system (ALS) arise. You would be very wrong to think so. The Si4 petrol engine is an alluminium lightweight unit that is so quiet that you might forget there is an engine up front. Direct injection may be a long forgotten term or totally new to the younger generation who hadn’t the chance to drive a directly injected truck with a tougher-than-life steering wheel, but this tremendous SUV doesn’t shy away from going back in time. It uses the latest direct injection and advanced turbocharging resulting to an authoritative pulling power coupled with clean and smooth … Read the rest

Using a Roof Rack

Roof Racks are designed to carry bulky, but light weight items. Remember that the bulkier the item, the worse your fuel economy is going to be. However, if it means that you can take the item with you as a pose to leaving it at home most people will pay the extra fuel. It can help to fit a wind deflector, but it depends on the racks that are fitted. The primary benefit of racks is the additional storage that you gain. However, they can be used for mounting spotlights, work lights and general fairy lights if that is what you choose to do.

Most racks can be removed during periods that you don’t use them (most people don’t use … Read the rest
