Both styles are made with protective backstop that prevents particles thrown by tires when driving. The plastic splash guards are commonly seen on cars while the rubber flaps are usually found on truck and heavy-duty vehicles. Plastic-made guards are durable enough for lightweight cars. It can withstand harsh weather conditions and prevent road particles that may cause dents on some part of the vehicle. On the other hand, the rubber material is as durable as plastic but more flexible, so it’s good for bigger sized vehicles to provide greater coverage. The rigid mud guards can get stuck onto the tires, especially for bigger sized vehicle at high speeds. The rubber ones can sail out of the way because of it flexible construction.
