Comparing a 6 Cylinder SUV and a 4 Cylinder

A 4 cylinder engine is designed with 4 pistons. Smaller cars like the Toyota Tacoma do have such an engine. The Toyota Tacoma is basically a 1995-2004 model compact pickup truck. The vehicle also has a 2.7L and 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. The 6 cylinder engine on the other hand has got 6 pistons.

A good number of passenger cars do have these engines too for instance the small trucks as well as the vans. The GMC truck v6 engine is one such example. It was originally produced between 1960 and 1978 within the Chevrolet 250 cid inline 6.

On the surface, it should seem like if there are more pistons, then there is more power. The V6 engine comes … Read the rest

Land Rover SUV

Originally it’s thought that the concept and design for the original Land Rover began was developed 1947 by former chief designer Maurice Wilks at the Rover Company. As the first land rover was a model offered by Rover from 1948. Maurice Wilks wanted a car he could drive and use as a practical vehicle around his farm in Anglesey in North Wales, where he was initially inspired by the World war II American Willy’s Jeep.

Since then the vehicles design and purpose have essentially followed closely to the original brief for a multi-purpose countryside vehicle which can also be used on the road. Although with today’s technology and materials the current models are more powerful, faster, bigger, and more comfortable … Read the rest

Beach Driving

My first advice is to ensure that your tyre pressures are adjusted correctly. By letting your tyres down you increase the surface area of the tyres and the vehicle floats on top of the sand better, rather than sinking down. Most people that get stuck don’t have their tyres down enough. For most vehicles, in between 15 and 20 PSI is the right pressure for sand driving. For the lighter weight vehicles, you can easily go down to 10 PSI without a drama. Just make sure that you don’t turn too quickly.

My second piece of advice is never spin your wheels in sand. If you stop moving and you continue to keep the wheels turning, your vehicle sinks lower, … Read the rest

4WD Tire Pressures

It’s this extra surface area touching the ground that makes all the difference. People think that the sideways growth from dropping their tire pressures makes the difference, but in reality it is the length that makes all the difference. If you calculate how much your surface area grows in length, you will be astounded. Would you also believe it if I told you tire deflation decreases the chance of a puncture in your rubber?

To prove it, take a balloon and blow it up until it is tight. Then, take it to a sharp rock and carefully push down on the balloon. You will find that it pops very quickly. Now, take an identical balloon and blow it up half … Read the rest

Things You Can Expect From a SUV

Luxury Features

Sport utility vehicles may have the word “sport” in them, but many of them are loaded with luxury features that make your time on the road far more enjoyable. Many models come standard with luxury features like satellite radio, GPS, heated seats, a DVD player for your passengers, and more. Those models that don’t offer these and other features as standard equipment do generally offer them as an option.

History of Jeep Off-Roading

Jeeps were first produced in the 1940’s. They were designed and marketed using the positive reputation that they had gained during World War II and many of the first buyers were veterans who had used them during their time in the war. The first marketed Jeep was the CJ’s they came straight from the factory ready to be taken off-road and enjoyed. Early Jeeps featured high ground clearance, four-wheel drive and the ability to change into low gears. If the motor of your winch will only run in one direction you may have a defective solenoid or stuck solenoid. If you think this may be the problem you should shake the solenoid to free the contacts and apply 12 volts to the coil terminal you should hear an audible click.
