Off-Road Driving

Off-roading is an enjoyable hobby that many people enjoy on a weekly basis. There are trails, parks and climbing areas that were specifically designed with off-roaders in mind. These trails are often located in beautiful areas that feature some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine. When off-roading you should take care not to cause any unnecessary damage to the trails and leave them the way you found them. We are going to provide you with some helpful off-roading tips that can make the time you spend on the trails all the more enjoyable.

  • Know What Your Vehicle Is Capable Of – Many vehicles that come straight off the lot are not off-road ready. It is important that you are always aware of the ground clearance of your vehicle when off-roading. There are a lot of rocks, trees and other objects that are commonly present on any off-roading trail. If your vehicle is not high enough trying to drive over a non-threatening rock can cause severe damage to your vehicle.
  • Know Where Your Wheels Are Pointed – No matter what type of terrain you are off-roading on it is very important that you are always of aware of your wheel position. During off-road driving there are a lot of steering corrections that need to made in order to safely maneuver through a trail, during the course of driving you may become confused as to which direction your front wheels are pointing, if you are at a critical part of a climb and you are not sure if your wheels are facing the correct direction you can always lean out the window to check. This can save you from crashing into a rock or tree or becoming stuck.
  • Never Go Alone – There are many things that can happen while you’re off-roading. It is highly recommended that you go off-roading with friends and have radios in each vehicle that will allow you to stay in contact in case anything should happen to your vehicle. It is also good to know that if you should become stuck or if your Jeep should break down on the trail that there is always going to be someone there to help.

Off-roading is a great way to spend the weekend, but to ensure that you remain safe you should follow the above suggestions. Never attempt any climb that you feel your vehicle cannot handle safely. There is a lot of fun to be had on off-road trails and parks, but always be alert you are not the only vehicle out there.

Fuel Efficient SUV

The most fuel efficient sport utility vehicle is the Audi Q5. This European car sells at a starting price of $35, 200, although the price can go up as high as $42,500 with the installation of additional features. In terms of its fuel efficiency, the Q5 is able to cover 20 miles with a gallon of fuel for urban driving, whereas a drive on the highway with a distance of 27 miles is possible with the same amount of fuel. This vehicle has a seating capacity of up to five adult passengers. With its spacious and comfortable leg room, passengers will not have to feel squeezed in into a narrow space. The Audi also sports the classic, sleek and elegant Audi look, reminiscent of the cool, sophisticated look of a European design. Besides its fuel efficiency, spacious interior and classy exterior, the Q5 is also highly praised for its exceptional driving experience.

Not far behind the Q5 is a SUV from Japanese carmaker Mazda, the Mazda Tribute. This one sells at a starting price of $20, 555, although the price can increase up to $27, 315. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Tribute can easily cover 23 miles in urban driving per gallon, whereas it covers an impressive 28 miles in highway driving per gallon. Overall, the vehicle has a fuel capacity of 17.5 gallon. Another aspect that is praised in the Tribute is its very user-friendly layout and controls, so drivers would not have to fiddle around trying to figure out what each control meant. Its smooth riding experience is also well approved by critics.

The final model is the original hybrid vehicle in the sport utility vehicle category, the 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid. For $27,000 the Escape impressively covers 36 miles per gallon for city driving, and 31 miles per gallon for highway driving. It can also accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in under nine seconds. As the first one in the market, the Escape may have had to face dozens of other competitors, but its smooth and easy driving experience is what makes it a crowd favorite.

Things You Can Expect From a SUV

Luxury Features

Sport utility vehicles may have the word “sport” in them, but many of them are loaded with luxury features that make your time on the road far more enjoyable. Many models come standard with luxury features like satellite radio, GPS, heated seats, a DVD player for your passengers, and more. Those models that don’t offer these and other features as standard equipment do generally offer them as an option.

Space for Everyone

SUVs today offer seating for between five and eight people in most cases. While some of the larger cars also offer seating for five, they often lack the extra headroom and leg room that an SUV offers. For families with older kids or those who simply don’t want to cram passengers into tight seating quarters, an SUV is a great option to consider. Further, most offer a significant amount of storage space as well.

A Size for All Needs

A sport utility vehicle is certainly a great choice for families as they provide plenty of space for the kids and even a few of their friends in the back seat. However, even singles and couples without kids are enjoying the benefits of an SUV. Today, there are smaller and larger sized SUVs, making it easy to find the right model to fit your own needs.

Functionality

While many people do buy an SUV because of the extra seating they provide, these are vehicles that offer plenty of other functional uses as well. Most are loaded with the same power you would get in a smaller or mid-sized truck, making them ideal for pulling a boat or trailer. Many also feature rear seating that folds down to create a huge area of open space behind the front row of seats. This is ideal for toting things like band equipment, flowers and landscaping supplies, and so much more.

SUV With Good Gas Mileage

Another factor to consider when looking at cars with the best gas mileage is the size of the vehicle. You may want a small SUV or a large one may be all that will accommodate your family. Don’t automatically assume that a small SUV will always get better gas mileage than a large one. Some of the mid-sized and large SUVs do better in this category than smaller ones. It’s all a matter of knowing which ones are which. When you have this information in hand, you can make an informed decision as to which car is right for you.

When it comes to model year, the best gas mileage SUVs are the Chevrolet Equinox and the GMC Terrain while the worst are the Chevrolet Suburban 2500 and the GMC Yukon XL 2500. The Equinox and Terrain get 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The Suburban 2500 and Yukon XL 2500, in contrast, get 10 mpg in the city and 15 on the highway. The average for all vehicles in this class was 17/24 with the range running from 10-32. This information was gathered from the EPA’s 2012 Fuel Economy Guide.

No matter which SUV you ultimately choose, there are ways you can save on gas each and every time you get behind the wheel. Accelerate slowly rather than punching it when a light turns green. Never speed to a red light either. If you let your foot off the gas and gradually slow down, you will save on fuel. The slower you drive, the less gas your vehicle will consume as resistance is less at lower speeds. Don’t let the car run when you are going to be sitting for a few minutes. It is best to turn it off and save on gas. SUVs are great cars, but can be fuel hogs. Keep this advice in mind when you go shopping and when you drive and your fuel costs won’t break the bank.

Hyundai Vehicles

Hyundai’s slogan, ‘New Thinking. New Possibilities.’ echoes the brand’s approach to offer people a Modern Premium vehicle. What does this mean? That a car doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive or packed with every possible feature to be desirable and accessible to the masses. Casey Hyun, Creative Design Manager at Hyundai explains, “Modern Premium is about giving the customers value that goes beyond things such as cost. It is about giving people a sense of belonging to the brand, giving satisfaction that’s greater than what a long warranty or cost savings can give.” He goes on to say that people want to drive a car that gets noticed and isn’t just recognised for being fuel-efficient or eco-friendly. This brings us to Hyundai today.

Part of Hyundai’s evolution was establishing its new Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy. Where did it all start? At the beginning, which in auto terms of course refers to the concept phase. When designing concept cars Hyundai focuses mainly on quality, originality, sustainability and customer needs, which allow both New Thinking and New Possibilities to emerge.

It was at the ix-onic’s concept stage that Hyundai first incorporated its Fluidic Design language. This unique design philosophy draws inspiration from contrasts and harmony in nature, for example the curves of a sand dune set against the rigid surface of a landscape. The biggest challenge for Hyundai was to transform a conceptual drawing into a practical design. And it was with passion and hard work from a dedicated team that the concept ix-onic eventually became the showroom Hyundai ix35.

The new ix35 was designed to let you enjoy lower CO2 emissions and less wind resistance without having to sacrifice style. And nothing captures the essence of Hyundai’s new design ethos better – balancing beauty and efficiency. This can be seen in all the latest Hyundai models including the i10, i20, i30, Accent and Elantra along with Hyundai’s recognizable hexagonal grille proudly displaying the brand’s logo. One can only wonder and look forward to what other New Possibilities Hyundai’s New Thinking philosophy will bring.

Characteristics Small SUVs

One of the key aspects considered when sourcing for this type of vehicles is efficiency. It has the capacity to display high standard performance regardless of its size. Its working capacity is not limited to size in any way.

This car offers comfort to the user. Convenience is a vital consideration when deciding on which car to buy. This is because the main purpose is to not only serve the person driving it but also other passengers.

Reliability is another aspect held by purchasing the car. It possesses a great ability to deliver in all weather conditions and on all roads. This reduces travel worries which arise from distance or the road conditions.

The vehicle contains enough seats to accommodate more people. Being a family car, great need arises to create convenience for family trips without leaving anyone behind. It contains adequate space which goes a long way to create comfort to all passengers. Most SUVs have enough seating for five passengers, while some accommodate up to eight people.

Each year new technology is developed and manufacturers are able to offer consumers more features and options for their SUVs. Some of the latest technology includes wireless connections to online information and entertainment services. These include mapping data and information as well as connections to music services.

Qualities for SUV Tire

Tires are important for any vehicle since they guarantee safety on the road. Here are some guidelines to use when purchasing tires for your SUV:

Load rate and size

This information is usually found on the manufacturer’s manual. SUV’s are of different models and makes with each having its specifications. It’s always important to buy a tire with the right specifications of load for your SUV.

It’s usually safe to buy tires that have the correct load rating recommended by the manufacturer. If you decide to go for bigger tires for a better look, buy one with the same load rating as the one recommended by the manufacturer. It’s also important to buy rims that fit your tire too.

Tread

As the vehicle becomes heavier, traction effects heightens. It is hence important to consider the SUV’s tread width. They usually differ in size from six inches and above. The tread design determines load carrying, tire rating speed and how the vehicle skids. It’s therefore important to buy tires that are like yours.

Choice of tires

It’s not given that tires that come with the SUV are perfect for it. The manufacturer ensures that load and speed ratings are correct but the different terrains the consumer uses for the vehicle are not considered. You can consider installing tires that are suitable for your SUV.

All terrain tires are good for SUV’s. Mostly SUV’s are for rough terrain. All terrain tires have a high load rating and hence suitable. The tires should handle loose and rough terrain. When used on rough terrain, the tread should protect the tire from damage.

All-season tires on the other hand are tires that can be used in any weather because they perform better. They have good adhesion and prevent the tread from wearing fast. The all-season tires also have a wide temperature operating rage.

Types

It’s advisable to replace tires with the exact type that’s on your vehicle. In case you decide to change the tires, make sure you do a complete change on all four tires. If you cannot afford all four, replace the rear tires. This ensures uniformity of the tires. SUV’s are usually installed with computer systems to guarantee proper working of brakes and transmissions. If the wheels are of different sizes then the system will misread information.

Having a 4WD Awning

Most awnings on the side of the vehicle are 2.5 metres x 2 metres, or 2 metres by 2 metres. The longer side is usually the one running length ways along your vehicle, so make sure you measure to see which is going to sit the best. These things are great, and incredibly cheap. In fact, you can get a good quality one for under $300, and fit it in around an hour.

4WD Awnings are designed to be set up by one person, and very quickly. The procedure normally involves unzipping the case, un-clipping the supports, rolling the awning out and standing the legs up. The legs are incorporated inside the aluminium frame that the awning rolls out of. Stand them up, attach the supports and if it is windy, put a few pegs in the ground with guy ropes going to the awning. I usually suggest that pegging it down is a good idea, as a gust of wind will pick the whole thing up, and dump it on your vehicle. This often results in panel damage!

4WD Awnings are completely weather proof; I have had a puddle of water build up on our awning when it was raining severely, and not a drop came through. Whether its a quick bite of lunch that you are after, or you want to sleep under the awning, they are a brilliant idea. You can get Awnings that pull out from the rear of the vehicle, and awnings that will cover all 3 sides of the vehicle. Expect to pay a considerably higher amount for these, but if they suit your purposes then that is great!

Urbane SUV

There are few aspects which set this car apart from other automobile options in the market. A person who is looking for a vehicle for weekend outing certainly does prefer a spacious wagon. Mahindra Quanto is very spacious on the inside plus it has two extra seats at the boot which is quite ample for small children. If not required, these seats can be folded back to get vast boot space. The second point comes out as the executive appeal of Quanto. Although it is a compact SUV the vehicle does not stand behind when it comes to formal looks. It can certainly be a symbol of personality of any working professional. The ground clearance of this vehicle comes out to be a benefit not only in hilly areas but also in bad roads of the city.

The best part of the compact SUV comes in the form of a technologically advanced diesel engine. Mahindra has used the mCR100 engine in the Quanto which is both fuel efficient and powerful. The Micro Hybrid Technology which is adopted in engines of Scorpio and XUV 500 vehicles is used in Quanto as well. This reduces fuel consumption to great extent to provide a powerful drive with great mileage. The fact that all these characteristics are available at a good price makes Quanto more impressive. Mahindra has carefully positioned the price of this compact SUV to stand between premium hatchbacks and other MuVs.

Mahindra Quanto does not make the customer feel low when it comes to comfort and convenience. The car has AC, armrests and perfectly placed utility space which include bottle holders and snack trays. A car which has SUV characteristics is expected to be well equipped with safety features. Mahindra Quanto does not fall short in this direction as well. Airbags, ABS and Intellipark Reverse Assist avoid dangers and protect passengers during a drive. The company has also picked good range of color options which has a mixture of premium and vibrant colors. While there are shades like Toreador Red and Rocky Beige to reflect the taste of the buyer colors like Java Brown and Mist Silver depict its dignity.
